Core Modules
Responsible Technology 2 (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to articulate social, ethical and legal issues and commercial risks together with the opportunities inherent in the use of computing technologies and the deployment of computer-based systems.
Responsible Technology 1 (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to articulate social, ethical and legal issues and commercial risks together with the opportunities inherent in the use of computing technologies and the deployment of computer-based systems.
Big Data Analytics (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to understand the underlying mechanisms of big data analytics. Be able to explore solutions to big data problems. Understand the legal and ethical issues in big data analytics.
Foundations of Data Science (30 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to make use of basic linear algebra and its relationship to data science. Develop a deep and systematic understanding and a critical awareness of associated important issues in data science. Apply the techniques of basic statistics and data analysis, using appropriate algorithms. Implement the aforementioned algorithms in appropriate programming language(s).
Machine Learning (30 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to consider the characteristics of a range of novel applications of machine learning and neural computation. Develop a deep and systematic understanding and a critical awareness of associated issues,some of which are at the forefront of machine learning and neural computation. Describe a range of strategies associated with designing artificial neural networks. Develop an ability to apply the techniques described above, and develop new skills or procedures for new situations.
Data Mining (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to develop skills in the concepts, techniques and applications of data mining, and some of the systems for data mining.
Final Research Project
Data Science and Analytics Masters Project (60 Credits)
This module is designed to enable students to select and apply data science and analytics techniques to practically investigate a particular problem. Furthermore, they will critically evaluate their own work. This module also aims to enable students to demonstrate that they can work independently with minimum supervision, efficiently plan their work, and present the results in both written and oral form. Students will also extend their knowledge by making effective use of the technical and scientific literature, and other relevant materials.
The entry requirements for the programme are:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or cognate discipline at a level equivalent to a UK second class Honours degree.
- For International applicants whose first language is not English, IELTS score of 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any band), or equivalent.
The supporting documents for the programme are:
- Bachelor’s degree (where applicable) at a level equivalent to a UK second class Honours degree.
- A reference letter from a current or previous manager or HR department or person in a position of authority is required as supporting evidence
- Personal identification documents e.g passport or I.D
- A personal statement (approx. 3-500 words) and/or video presentation about why you want to study this programme.
- Proof of English Language Proficiency (POE) where applicable.
